Tyler Emerson is a pianist raised in Lyndonville Vermont, now living in New York’s Hudson Valley. He is Co-Artistic Director of Capital City Concerts, a chamber series based in Montpelier Vermont alongside his wife, flutist Jillian Reed. His great loves are his wife; skiing and hiking in the Northeast; exploring the vast keyboard literature; and teaching the joy of music to his students.

Tyler studied Piano Performance at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music with Professor Stephanie Brown and Economics at Bard College advised by Professor Pavlina R. Tcherneva. His work in both realms reflects a deep love of learning about human nature and community. In music, his goal is to make works in the classical tradition accessible and relevant to students and listeners. In economics, his goal has been to understand and explain inequality.

Tyler is fortunate to have received guidance and instruction from renowned pianists including Stephanie Brown, John O’Conor, André Laplante, and Paul Ostrovsky. He has performed throughout New York, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Privately, he has performed house concerts for audiences including elected officials, musicians, friends, and family & friends in hospice. Tyler’s performing philosophy is to bring his music to audiences he knows personally, where he can make the greatest impact. Tyler served as music director and pianist for Vermont Children’s Theater during their 2016 and 2017 seasons. He is proud to know and perform the works of living and under-represented composers and has premiered multiple works written for him and Jillian.
