Tyler Emerson is a New York-based Performer, Artistic Director and Teacher, specializing in Classical Piano
He is currently accepting new students
My Background
I am Tyler Emerson, a Vermont-raised classical pianist now based in the Hudson Valley of New York working as a teacher, performer, and director.
I am Artistic Director of Capital City Concerts, a chamber music series in Montpelier Vermont, alongside my wife, flutist Jillian Reed. I have experience as a soloist and as a collaborative pianist and am proud to play works of living and of less-recognized composers. I enjoy performing in intimate settings where I can meet my audience and create deep musical memories.
I have more than a decade of experience teaching piano students privately and in groups, including being music director of Vermont Children’s Theater for its 2016 and 2017 seasons, and am enthusiastic about sharing my passion for making music.
My Teaching
Music is essential to our lives, and being able to make it ourselves is empowering. Helping you build that skill is my top priority!
My teaching philosophy is built on mutual respect and kindness between teacher and pupil. With that foundation, my goal as an instructor is to give students the skills to become their own best teacher as they navigate the musical and technical complexities of the piano literature across genres.
Every lesson includes fun and interactive instruction on note reading and theory, technique, improvisation, and more.
